About the beauty bloggers

Sunday, May 25, 2014 0 Permalink 0

Thanks to our founder Celeste, the Adelaide Beauty Bloggers was born to bring together like-minded people in Adelaide who love to blog about all things beauty and style. We’ve even held a few yearly conferences and have met lots of brands!

So how do you become a member of the Adelaide Beauty Bloggers?

The only requirement to join our meetup group is that you are interested in blogging about beauty or you already do. We can help you get started if it’s something you have wanted to do for a while, or we can help you with hints and tips to make your blog bigger and better.

We meet monthly, alternating between a brand based meet (sometimes with brands present) and a social meet. Come along to a social meet and get to know us. We’d love to meet you!

For the month of May, Monique has generously offered to teach us some of her amazing skills and show us just how cupcake decorating is done.

So bring your steady hands, hungry stomachs and some cash for coffees and teas and be ready to be cupcake-ified!

We will spend the evening learning about gorgeous hair styling with Anna-Lisa from Violet’s Hair and then a bit of how-to from the gorgeous makeup brand Paul Penders, and of course we can’t forget the games!! (I’m going to make it a bit of a tradition I think… games at ABBM/ABC!)

Anyways, hope to see you there, I can’t wait! RSVP now!

Nov: Picnic in the Parks

Saturday, November 24, 2012 5 Permalink 0

You asked and we listened!

With Spring being so beautiful and the heat being turned on for us, it’s time for us to go have fun in the sun!

So let’s have a picnic! Everybody can bring a plate to share and we will lounge around and chit chat about all things beautiful while being gorgeous ourselves! Please comment and let us know if you are bringing savoury or sweet.

In addition to the picnic, we are also having a swap meet. So if you have anything (beauty related) you’d like to swap, bring it and add it to the pool! Anything (or nothing!) is fine, but we do ask that you refrain from bringing anything that could be a potential hygiene risk such as used eye pencils and mascaras. (eyeshadows are okay!)

So see you there, hopefully with a fascinator or two? It is spring after all!

For any questions, please contact Stacey

Come visit the fabulous Swedish brand Make Up Store and learn all about their newest spellbound range.

We will have a special guest, specifically flown in from Sydney to welcome us to the chic store: Maria Gabriel.

Maria Gabriel is the creative director and general manager for Make Up Store Australia. With her extensive training in all things Make Up Store, including having been mentored by Olle Johannson, the head make-up artist and product developer for Make Up Store worldwide, Maria was instrumental in bringing Make Up Store and their world of colours to the Australian market in 2005. Since then Maria has worked tirelessly to translate the brand’s innovative and creative culture to the Australian audience and educate the public in how to get the best out of the Make Up Store product range.

It should be a fun and educational day – so see you there!

p/s: Please comment with your write up post-event!

Sept: Adelaide Beauty Conference

Friday, September 14, 2012 0 Permalink 0

What better way to herald the arrival of spring than with a celebration of beauty, skincare and haircare at the annual Adelaide Beauty Conference (ABC)? The 1st of September saw 25 beauty bloggers gather at Media Makeup Academy, Rundle Mall, Adelaide for the most highly anticipated beauty event of the year in the Adelaide beauty blogging calendar.
Founded by Celeste Wong of Becoming-Beautiful.com, the conference aims to bring beauty bloggers across Adelaide under the same roof to learn, network and celebrate all that is Australian. The chosen theme of the year was Australian Born and Bred: Celebrating the local industry, where the main focus of ABC was on beauty brands that were Australian-owned. This included not only beauty, skincare, and haircare brands; the venue, photography and catering sponsors were also sourced from local companies.

Amidst cakepops, photography flashes and beautiful giftboxes from Sukin, the conference was kicked off with a short welcome by Celeste. It was then followed by a tour of the premises by Bec, the owner of Media Makeup Academy, who has a deep passion for education and makeup. After a quick stop at the refuelling station (where Zedz Café and Cupcake Treats made a very delicious appearance), Evo Hair wowed the audience by showing their rather unusual take on haircare products. With a mind-blowing visual presentation, Evo Hair shared its proud South Australian spirit and showed how their unconventional approach to marketing had taken the world by storm.

Following that, it was back to science class with the attendees as The Purist Company took the bloggers on a whirlwind trip back to high school. Luckily for everybody present, they left the tests out! With ingredients on-hand to allow for experimentation, bloggers learnt about the science behind the products that The Purist Company produced and indulged themselves in the geeky nature of beauty products. The hands-on nature of the presentation left many bloggers enchanted and there was many a cry for an encore session.

After a short break, bloggers were then ushered into the next session. Mindful of the fact that attendees would have spent the last few hours paying close attention and focusing upon the workshops, a few short games had been arranged for some light-hearted entertainment. Following a particular fierce battle of Pictionary (Australia beauty brands edition), the winners were awarded with an amazing prize pack from Nak for their extensive knowledge of Australian beauty brands. A lucky dip that combined finesse, skill and packing peanuts had the attendees alternating between cheers of support and sighs of empathetic disappointment as they tried their luck at prizes from Absolutely Gorgeous.

The conference wrapped up with a heated discussion about the monetization of blogs. Guest speakers Christina (HungryAustralian.com), Melissa (MelissaLoh.com) and Celeste (Becoming-Beautiful.com) shared their opinions, experiences and stories on monetization on their respective blogs. Questions such as the journalistic integrity of the blogger that monetizes, finding the balance between fun and business blogging, and finding your own path were discussed by the panel. It was a topic that was of great interest to those attending and it was enlightening to hear the opinions of established bloggers.

The day could not have ended up on a more joyous note: with goodies from various Australian brands, the attendees were delighted with their selection of amazing goodies generously sponsored by fabulous Australian brands eager to show their support to the Adelaide beauty bloggers.

A fantastic day was had by all – thank you to all sponsors, helpers, volunteers and attendees who were involved. Planning for Adelaide Beauty Conference 2013 has already commenced, so please do get in touch if you’d like to be kept updated with our plans.
